About Dr. William Wright

William F. Wright, MD FAPA
Psychiatrist, Founder/Owner
Dr. William Wright originally hails from the Carolinas and was born and raised in the piedmont of South Carolina. Sparked into a passion for sciences by his high school AP biology teacher, he was drawn to the sciences but wanted to merge his love for people and stories. During his medical school training under experts in the fields of mental health and substance use issues, his passion for these areas was sparked and continues to grow in the years since.
He is also a proud alumnus of the Honors College at the College of Charleston. He completed all his formal medical education including medical school, residency (including being elected a Chief Resident), and addiction psychiatry fellowship at the Medical University of South Carolina (a national leader in addiction research and training) in Charleston, SC and is a double board-certified general and addiction psychiatric physician. During his tenure at MUSC, he trained and learned under experts in the field of addictions such as Drs. Kathleen Brady, Ray Anton, Tara Wright, Karen Hartwell, and Kevin Gray.
Although Charleston will always remain in his heart and on his mind, he returned to his roots in the Piedmont of the Carolinas in order to give back to his home communities. Upon his return, he practiced with and under the mentorship of a national leader in the field of Addiction Psychiatry, Dr. Stephen A. Wyatt. Dr. Wright has worked for academic, non-profit, and Veterans Affairs hospital systems in both inpatient and outpatient settings but is interested in the individual - helping to treat them as a whole person. Dr. Wright has immersed himself in the addiction issues including the opioid crisis at the local, state, and national levels and has been an expert presenter/teacher at all these levels. With the desire to further extinguish the stigma surrounding those battling substance use, Dr. Wright has also become a trainer at the local, state, and national level for other clinicians in utilizing specialized medications for the treatment of substance use disorders. He is also passionate about teaching the next generation of medical physicians and has fulfilled many roles in the past as an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry and Associate Psychiatry Clerkship Director for two different institutions. Dr. Wright is also one of the editors for the national newsletter for the American Academy of Addiction Psychiatry as well as one of the representatives for Area 5 of the American Psychiatric Association Assembly of District Branches.
Recovery...balance...peace... is a multi-step journey, and it’s very difficult to navigate the waters without help.
